Core Cloud Microphysics
Cloud microphysics measurement and data collection
The FAAM Airborne Laboratory offers a suite of cloud microphysics measurements spanning particle sizes from coarse mode aerosols and cloud droplets to liquid and snow precipitation as part of our core data package. This project is closely linked to the planned updates to the underwing pylons and their instrument canisters, the rack that manages data from these pylons, and new fuselage hardpoints.
The current core cloud microphysics measurement capabilities will be future-proofed and existing equipment will be upgraded to incorporate additional performance provided by complementary projects. This project will also support the further development of in-house data processing and analysis expertise. Key modifications include the purchase and certification of new canister instruments, installation of new canister instruments.
