Pylon Instruments Rack

User interface and equipment for cloud physics measurements

The Pylon Instruments (PI) rack project is a continuation of an ongoing program of upgrades to the power, control, and data systems used to operate canister instruments under the wing. The PI rack will include new rack control software and provision of in-flight, near-real time processing. Users will also be able to operate up to five probes per pylon, instead of the current four.

Post-MLU developments are accounted for, with high-rate data connections to support the use of next-generation underwing probes. The update allows for the possibility of the rack’s remote operation in the future.
