Laser-based Observer of Key Inorganics (LOKI)

Gas concentration detection and flux measurements

The ability to sensitively measure low concentrations and quantify emission or deposition fluxes of key atmospheric gases at high time resolution is key to understanding remote atmospheres. LOKI will provide significant improvements in our understanding of air quality and climate by providing high sensitivity measurements of ozone and nitrogen and sulfur oxides. This instrument will be able to establish gas concentrations and flux measurements in remote and clean environments from the air at the single, or even sub, part per trillion mixing ratio. This sensitivity will be particularly important as we transition to net-zero, and sulfur and nitrogen oxides emissions reduce.
