Fluorescence Assay by Supersonic Gas Expansion (FAGE-HOx)

Atmospheric gas detection

This project develops a new aircraft Fluorescence Assay by supersonic Gas Expansion (FAGE) instrument for detecting atmospheric gases, using the original FAGE inlet. The upgraded FAGE instrument will be three times as sensitive. The UV laser power that this new system can provide is considerably greater than was achieved with the previous laser. OH reactivity will be measured simultaneously using laser flash photolysis laser-induced fluorescence, meaning that OH reactivity can be measured in real time.
